Having gained formal medical and dermatology qualifications from Monash University in Melbourne, Practice Leader Dr Peter Cowen completed post-graduate training in Oxford and Durham in the United Kingdom.
A former Councillor of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and Chairman of its Victorian chapter, Dr Cowen has authored more than 30 articles in medical journals and has led twenty clinical trials, including on the subjects below:
- Psoriasis
- Male pattern hair loss
- Fungal skin infections
- Acne
- Non-surgical treatment of skin cancer

Dr Sarah McDonald Joins Clayton Dermatology
Clayton Dermatology is delighted to announce that Sarah McDonald has joined the practice, with appointments now available.
Dr McDonald has previously worked in private practice in Sydney and Dubbo prior to relocating to Melbourne in 2018. She is trained in both medical and surgical dermatology and has particular interests in early skin cancer detection and management, eczema, psoriasis, excessive sweating, acne and rosacea.
Having graduated in Medicine with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2008, Dr McDonald completed specialist Dermatology training in Sydney and Newcastle during which time she was awarded the President's medal in Pharmacology. Upon completion of her training. she received an international scholarship from the American Academy of Dermatology for her examination results. She is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
